| Q. |
How is it possible for a 2.20 ct. pigeon-blood red ruby
to cost less than a 1.50 ct. light red ruby? |
| A. |
As indicated in the description, the 1 ct. stone is
almost clean, whereas the 2.20 ct. has a visible inclusion. |
| |
|
| Q. |
I saw on your web site a 1.21 ct. fine royal blue
sapphire priced at only $680, and I saw another sapphire, also fine royal blue
but in 1.15 ct., which was priced at $1730. How is this possible? |
| A. |
Because in the descriptions, the 1.21 ct. has its luster rated as good, whereas
the luster of the 1.15 ct. is excellent; also the 1.21 ct. has color bands and
the 1.15 ct. is clean. |
|
|
| Q. |
On your web site I saw a 30 ct. extra fine, green
emerald that was cheaper than a 4 ct. grass green emerald. How can this be?
|
| A. |
In the descriptions, the 30 ct. extra fine, grass green emerald was slightly
included and not so bright. The 4 ct. stone, on the other hand, was almost
clean, very bright, and full of brilliance.

| Q. |
What is the difference between the grades: Ideal Cut,
Premium Cut, etc.? |
| A. |
The terms "Premium Cut", "Tolkowsky Ideal Cut", and "Excellent Ideal Cut" apply
only to round diamonds. Stones receive these grades according to certain angles
of cuts and certain percentage standards. For example, Premium Cuts have a
table percentage from 58.0% to 61.0%; Tolkowsky Ideal Cuts have a table
percentage from 53.0% to 58.0%, and Excellent Ideal Cuts have a table
percentage from 52.5% to 58.4%. Depth percentages on any stone should not be
below 58.0% or above 63.8%.
